Sasol and Hurricane Harvey

Sasol and Hurricane Harvey

Updated: Friday, Sept. 1

  • Sasol has implemented its inclement weather plans at all affected locations and continues to closely monitor potential impacts of Tropical Storm Harvey. We are focused on the safety of our workforce, the protection of the environment and the integrity of our facilities.
  • To this point, the storm has had no material impacts on our existing operations at the Lake Charles Chemical Complex. We continue to monitor critical supply lines from surrounding areas that have been impacted by the storm.
  • The Lake Charles Chemicals Project construction site is experiencing construction delays normally associated with heavy rainfall. Sasol partially reopened the site on Thursday, Aug. 31, to begin preparing areas impacted by rainfall to resume construction activities. Project management is closely coordinating with Fluor Technip Integrated and works contractors to determine what work will be possible over the coming days.
  • Our phenolics production facilities in Houston and Winnie, Texas, were shut down Friday, Aug. 25, to ensure the safety of our employees and will resume operations as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • We will provide updates as conditions warrant.
  • For Sasol employees seeking assistance, we have launched a resources webpage to provide a one-stop-shop for your recovery needs. Please click here.
